The Return of the Mazda6: Introducing the EZ-6

New Design, New Features

Mazda is bringing back the Mazda6 sedan in a whole new way. Here's what you need to know about the EZ-6:

1. A Fresh Start

  • The Mazda6 was removed from the US lineup in 2021, but it's making a comeback as the EZ-6.
  • Developed by the Changan Mazda joint venture, this sleek sedan will be available in electric and plug-in hybrid versions.

2. Stylish Design

  • The EZ-6 features Mazda's signature Kodo design language with unique touches like a partially illuminated grille and pop-out door handles.
  • Its taillights and headlights bear resemblance to Jaguar designs, and it even sports an unexpected active spoiler.
  • With 19-inch aero wheels, a large panoramic glass roof, and frameless doors, the EZ-6 exudes modern elegance.

3. Luxurious Interior

  • Reports suggest that the interior of the EZ-6 is upscale, setting it apart from the global Mazda lineup.
  • The cabin boasts a full-length "floating" center console, offering a comfortable and sophisticated environment for passengers.

4. Impressive Performance

  • The electric version of the Mazda EZ-6 features rear-wheel drive with a perfect 50:50 weight distribution and a multi-link rear suspension.
  • Its battery pack, although unspecified, offers an impressive range of 373 miles according to the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).
  • The plug-in hybrid version can cover an even longer distance of 621 miles before needing a recharge or refuel.

5. Size and Future Plans

  • Measuring 193.7 inches long, 74.4 inches wide, and 58.4 inches tall, the EZ-6 is slightly larger than its predecessor.
  • Mazda has confirmed that the EZ-6 won't replace the traditional Mazda6, which won't be revived on the company's new RWD platform with inline-six engines.
  • This platform is currently reserved for Mazda's SUV lineup.

6. Availability

  • The Mazda EZ-6 is set to debut at the Beijing Motor Show and will be available for purchase in China shortly after.
  • Unfortunately, there are no plans to export the electric/plug-in hybrid sedan to other markets at this time.
