Introducing the Kia EV9 GT: A Powerful SUV

Kia recently shared some exciting news about their upcoming product lineup during an Investor Day speech. Here's what we know about the highly anticipated Kia EV9 GT:

1. Enormous Power

  • The EV9 GT will feature an upgraded dual-motor setup, promising "enormous power."
  • It's expected to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in under four seconds, despite its hefty weight of nearly 6,000 pounds.
  • Compared to the current most powerful version, which offers 379 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, the GT version will receive a significant power boost.
  • This extra power will likely reduce the sprint time by more than one second.

2. Potential Range Impact

  • With the focus on performance, it's possible that the EV9 GT's range might be affected.
  • Typically, when an electric vehicle receives a performance upgrade, it sacrifices some efficiency, potentially reducing the range.
  • The current EV9 GT-Line offers a range of 270 miles on a single charge, according to EPA estimates.

3. Enhanced Features

  • The GT model will come with a beefier suspension setup and upgraded brakes for improved handling and stopping power.

4. Other Electric SUV Developments

  • Alongside the EV9 GT, Kia is also planning a GT version of the EV5 SUV.
  • Although not discussed during the Investor Day, the EV5 GT has been spotted in China and recently received approval from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

5. Upcoming Product Roadmap

  • During the presentation, Kia unveiled a roadmap for their upcoming products.
  • An updated version of the EV6 is set to launch in the second quarter of the year, followed by the sporty EV6 GT in early Q4.
  • Additionally, Kia plans to make tweaks to the popular Sportage in the final quarter of the year.
  • Other releases include the EV3 and new K4 in Q3, along with a mid-cycle facelift for the K8 sedan.

6. Bonus: More to Come

  • In addition to the EV9 GT and other mentioned models, Kia will soon introduce a five-door hatchback version of the K3 compact sedan.
