The case was brought by Owen Diaz, who worked as an elevator operator at the factory. Diaz claimed he was subjected to a hostile work environment, where he faced racial slurs and discriminatory behavior from colleagues and supervisors. A jury initially awarded Diaz $137 million in damages in 2021, marking one of the largest payouts for a racial discrimination case in the United States.
